George's hot spring guides consistently rock the house!

His directions are always the best, his "two cents" comments are always appreciated, and his listing of springs is fairly comprehensive.

His other two hot springs books are great, as well.

To soak in a natural hot spring beneath a bazillion blazing stars is akin to stealing the creme filling outta the Oreos...and no one notices! Finding these special, out of the way places to soak -- off the beaten path -- is a triumph and a wonder. Thank you so much for fording the way into uncharted waters......

The Access series are very good and the Las Vegas book is a favorite of mine. When ever I go for business or pleasure, I take the current Access along. I have found that with the multitude of changes the earlier editions help to remind me of Casinos and attractions that are no more. As Vegas continues to develope at an extraordinary pace, I find I look forward to the new release more and more.

Access Las Vegas brings a colorful guide to the subject of the city of light, Las Vegas. With reviews of Hotels and Casinos with resturant ratings as well as a nod to the arts and sciences (Museums), this is one book I will not leave behind when visiting Nevada's most famous city.

Ther are maps that section the city into easy to cover areas and color coding to help distinguish the variety of critiqued locations. Backround and history with many best fo lists by the knowledgable and famous citizens give excellent insights to getting around and geating the most from your visit. Concise examination of the many casino games help the novice may their way through a bewildering array of choices.

All in all perhaps the best book for the money of it's kind. The access line of books are all quite good.

I liked this book as it was a story back in the 1940's and early 50's of the author's life out on the desolate Nevada desert. It was funny, sad, and the family was close knit and survived on very little but had a lot in love, and good memories. Author said he designed the cover for this book and his wife made a pattern for an afghan, crocheted one, and has the pattern for sale thru Ira Pub., 4208 Jasper Ave., Nevada, 89108. I thought this was a neat idea.

autobiography of the authors young life with his family and the kind of life that was experienced back then l940' and l950'. You wanted to laugh at time and cry at times and it was their life in the nevada desert. It was easy to read and kept your attention. He told of the times that he and siblings had and what they did to pass the time away, while living in such desolate areas. It was a real excellent book for all ages to read.

The guide has a nice layout, which makes things easy to find. Each section gives a general overview of what there is to do in an area; this is a great starting point if you are not familiar with the location. I think this would be a great asset to anyone traveling about in Arizona, California, Nevada, and Utah.

The Mobil Travel Guide for California was invaluable for our recent trips on the California coast and to Las Vegas and the Grand Canyon. My past experience with other Mobil Travel Guides is that their information is complete and accurate. The ratings system for hotels and restaurants are reliable and will steer you to excellent values and quality establishments. Unless an establishment is brand new, it is a safe bet that it has not been included in the Guide for a reason. The Guide is especially helpful for families who are looking for a quality hotel room or meal for a reasonable price.

We have used the maps in the Guide and it has helpful information for planning trips, including mileage and time between destinations. The individual listings of motels, hotels and restaurants give useful information regarding decor, amenities and pets. We moved our family and pets across country using the Mobil Guide to find hotels that accepted dogs in our price range. This is the finest resource for domestic travel that I have seen. I recommend that you buy it for planning your trip and don't forget to bring it along. We changed our travel plans in the Mojave desert and made reservations on our cell phone using the Mobil Guide to California and the West!

If you're planning a trip to Mount Whitney, you need this book. It contains the most comprehensive trail guide on the market, with detailed descriptions and photos to help you visualize the hike. There are also many other helpful chapters, such as: Bears, Wildlife, Weather, Your Success Factors (hints for mental and physical preparation), and background history of the trail.

Before hiking Mount Whitney, I browsed a few books on the topic. This book was the most informative and interesting to read. Not only are there interesting anecdotes about the hike, including some of the messages left in the guestbook at the top, the book is well organized and readable. The book divides the hike into parts, making it easy to envision before attempting a hike to the summit. This is a wonderful book written by the owner of the Whitney Store.

Some say this is Muir's finest work. As the only other Muir book I've read (at this writing) is Travels in Alaska, I cannot comment on this, other than to say that I enjoyed this book a great deal.
From almost any vantage point in California, whether near or on a distant horizon, there are mountains. A fact not lost on Muir, whose sense of wonder and love of life endear him to his readers.
"God's glacial-mills grind slowly, but they have been kept in motion long enough in California to grind sufficient soil for a glorious abundance of life ... In so wild and so beautiful a region [was spent my day], every sight and sound inspiring, leading one far out of himself, yet feeding and building up his individuality."
Muir was the consummate man in nature. Anyone who is indifferent to Muir's writing may simply be indifferent to wonderment itself. I have no doubt that if Muir were placed in a room with the great kings and generals and tycoons and empire builders of history, he would appear singularly as a man among men. Unimpressed with their pomp and bluster over rotting empire, he might soon command more attention than they, and many would be happily listening to Muir in spite of their self importance. Why? He would have the most interesting insights, offered poetically and in a most humble and charming way. ... (in fact Muir was sought out by the great politicians and philosophers of his day).
If you like mountains, if you like California, if you like trees and glacier-fed streams, you will like this book.

muir describes the sierras with detail and love. he is one of the few authors who is content just to be in and describe a landscape. and what a description!. he describes the evolution of glaciaral lakes to the hights of mount ritter and the migrations of deer and native peoples. a great book i recoment it to anyone who loves the outdoors.

This is book 2 in the Wagon's West series.

The wagon train is now heading into new territory for them. They are on the way to Oregon and are leaving Independence, MO behind. They are also now being led by Whip Holt. They are traveling through Nebraska and continuing westward.

This is the story of their struggles against the British & Russian forces trying to keep them for making the trip as well and the environment and Native Americans.

This book is one of the 6th printing from back in the late 70's. If you are interested in the settlement of the American West this is one series that you need to revisit.

This is a book I keep reading again and again. It just is a terrific read. If you're interested in the history of early America, then this is THE series for you!

What can I say ... the short series collected in this volume has a real woman for the lead character, vivid characterisation, heaps of intelligence, a sharp critique of modern society and humanity in general, and an exposition of an existentialist, yet non-materialist philosophy unlike anything you'll find elsewhere in comics. The fantastic milieu of Las Vegas and alternate dimensions is rendered in a wonderful and realistic style by Phil Winslade ... Clearly, a special labour of love by Gerber and Winslade, which, along with Gerber's Howard the Duck volumes, comes very highly recommended to anyone who loves comics, but wishes more of them had intelligence and soul.

Wow, I'm surprised no one has reviewed this book! Originally a six issue mini-series from DC Comics' Vertigo line, this comic has it all: a beautiful strong woman, who also happens to be a Vegas showgirl, a pet ostrich (named Bolero), a gangster with a lava lamp head, strange murders, and much more. Steve Gerber has written one weird story here, as if Las Vegas wasn't already surreal enough. Nevada, the main character, is a pretty unique woman in the world of comics. She's tough, but more in a psychological way than your typical Amazonesque superheroine or babe with big guns. She's sexy, but in a real and naural way. The artwork is good too, supplied by Phil Winslade and Steve Leialoha. This is probably one of the best Vertigo mini-series ever (along with Peter's Milligan's ENIGMA and Paul Pope's HEAVY LIQUID.) If you like Grant Morrison's stuff, you'll probably like this too. Gritty and surreal just the way you like it!

Excellent book! The directions are easy to follow and you find everything the author says you will. I visited 6 sites so far and am looking forward to visiting all of them.

This is a great guide . I have visited 10 of the sites so far . The directions are great - everything is right where they say it will be . I have found some really great rocks thanks to this guide. If you live in Nevada and like rockhounding don't pass this one up.

This is the definitive work on the definitive Sierra Nevada narrow guage railroad. A classic work, the text is fascinating, the photographs enchanting.

Recently republished, the plates are excellent. I was first introduced to this work 20 years ago, and it continues to be a favorite.
